IRS Refunds Still Coming in July 2026: How To Track Your Refund

Some taxpayers are still waiting on IRS refunds in July 2026, especially people who filed later in the season or filed on paper.

Refund timing depends on when the return was accepted, whether it was e-filed, and whether the taxpayer chose direct deposit or a mailed check.

When July Refunds May Arrive

The College Investor’s 2026 refund calendar gives estimated dates based on when the IRS accepted a return. For returns accepted June 14 to June 20, direct deposits are projected for July 3, with paper checks mailed on July 10.

For returns accepted June 21 to June 27, direct deposit is projected for July 10 and paper checks for July 17. Returns accepted June 28 to July 4 could see direct deposit on July 17, while paper checks are projected for July 24. Returns accepted July 5 to July 11 are listed for direct deposit on July 24 and paper checks on July 31.

Why Some Refunds Take Longer

Taxpayers whose returns were accepted July 12 to July 18 may see direct deposits on July 31, with paper checks expected on August 7.

The IRS says direct deposit is the fastest way to get a refund, while paper returns and mailed checks usually take longer.

Refunds can also be delayed by errors, missing information, identity verification issues, or credits that require extra review. If a return needs additional processing, the refund may fall outside the estimate even if it was filed electronically.

How To Track Your Refund

Taxpayers who are still waiting should use the IRS Where’s My Refund? tool or the IRS2Go app to check the latest status. If you e-filed, you can usually see refund status after about 48 hours, and the IRS updates the tool every 24 hours.

The IRS also notes that taxpayers need their Social Security number or ITIN, filing status, and exact refund amount to use the tracker.

What This Means For Taxpayers

The basic rule is simple: the later the return was accepted, the later the refund is likely to arrive. That means many July refunds are still working through the system even after tax season has ended.
